The Need for Approval

Seeking Approval

Who doesn’t like a compliment every once in a while? They can serve as a great reminder of the good qualities that lie within you, and even help you identify gifts and talents you had no idea were there.  Let’s face it, compliments are wonderful, but when the need for them becomes a must-have before you can feel good about yourself, you know their function in your life has become out of balance. It is important that you know for yourself that you are beautiful, gifted, talented, and possess seeds of greatness that live inside of you! Whether you receive man’s approval or not should never matter because God has already confirmed you in His Word, and He said you are a marvelous creation!

Think About It

Take a moment and reflect.  Can you identify ways in which you seek to gain the approval of others?  It could be in the things you do or don’t do, or the things you say or choose not to say.

Take Action

For each item listed above, list one thing you can do that will combat the old habit of seeking approval of others and help you begin walking in the approval you already have in Christ Jesus.

This is right on target. The need for approval can function like a drug and cause us to validate ourselves by doing things or going places that are our of synch with out belief system. Your words have changed me to today, I a reminded that I need to re-exam “my need for approval”.

Thank you for your comment! For me, it wasn’t until I finally realized that God’s stamp of approval was the only one I needed that I truly began to walk in freedom. That said I still check myself from time to time to make sure I don’t venture away from this truth.
