Feeling Lonely?

The Remedy for Loneliness

Feelings of loneliness can literally make a person feel isolated—like they are shut off from the rest of the world. It’s ironic, but it is possible to feel just as lonely in a crowd as you do when you are by yourself, because somehow your need for connection is not being met. Then there is the case of being without the physical presence of a significant individual in your life—this too has the ability to breed loneliness. Whatever the source may be that breeds these feelings, know that the remedy can be found in Jesus Christ, and with Him you don’t ever have to feel lonely. While this statement may sound “churchy,” or cliché, at best, it’s a fact. When times are good He’s there and when times are bad He’s even closer. Yes, it’s nice to connect with another person and experience the joy that comes from having a healthy relationship, but if you find that this is not your present situation, I challenge you to place your trust in Jesus to fill the void that only He can.  There is a place in all of our hearts that only the sweet loving fellowship of God’s Son can fill. Take time today to discover the blessing that results from having a connection with Him, and discover that with the loving presence of Jesus in your life, you never have to feel lonely.

Moment of Reflection:

Are you struggling with feelings of loneliness?  What are you lonely about?  If your answer is yes, list things you do to help you cope with these feelings.

Take Action:

Sometimes what we think we need to fill the emptiness and loneliness in our life isn’t necessarily the best thing for us. I challenge you to go before God and have a talk with Him. Tell Him how you feel and ask Him to fill the loneliness you have in your heart. He may choose to answer you by encouraging you to seek a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him, or He may choose to fill that void by sending you on an assignment to bring joy and fulfillment to someone else’s life. Trust that however he chooses to answer your prayer it is exactly what you need.

Meditate on this: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
